Crock Pot Ribs

"Riddle me this Gourmom.. What can you do with a big slab of spare ribs and a crock pot?"


This question was posted to me on Facebook this morning. Here is my answer:

You will need all day. Use my pork rub recipe. Cut them into manageable pieces and coat them well. Arrange them all in the crock pot (throw in an onion chopped up if you have it & it fits) and add a can of beer. Cover and cook on low all day (6-8 hours or so). Take them out and lay them on a baking sheet. Cover with bbq sauce and seal them in with foil. Bake at 400 for another hour or so.

Crispy, tender, fall off the bone, fat melted away goodness.

Here is the simple pork rub: Use a few tbsp brown sugar, then a tbsp of each: smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt. You can add either black pepper or chili powder for kick. It's sweet & smokey, but if you add some heat it's spicy too!

Since I had a bump in my dinner plans, I felt the need to provide you with SOMETHING tonight.



NOTE: I don't buy ribs often. I got lucky and found these at Sam's Club on "Reduced for Quick Sale" at $2.09/pound!!! It was 3 full slabs.

My "Gourmom Challenger" friend Tim tried the ribs and here is what he had to say about them:

5 star recipe!! I could barely get the ribs out of the crock pot they were so tender! After I took them out of the oven with the BBQ sauce smothering them, they didn't even make it to a plate! They went staight to my tummy! I will definitely be making these again! Thanks again for the recipe!

I've had crock pots for 25+ years- and never considered doing ribs in them before I read your blog. Made them tonight and they were excellent! My hubby says they were the best ribs I've ever made. Thanks for the idea!
