Jake I I went out to play in the snow this morning and I promised him hot chocolate when we went inside - yes, I bribe my child with chocolate. It was cold.
Anyways, when we got inside, I didn't have any cocoa mix packets and I remembered that container of Hershey's cocoa! There is a great recipe on it for microwave hot chocolate. Jake is a BIG fan, I've discovered.
2 tbsp of sugar
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
a dash of salt
1 cup of milk (I used skim & it was very rich & creamy tasting)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Combine the sugar, cocoa & salt in a large mug. Heat milk in microwave safe cup (I used a pyrex measuring cup) until hot. Gradually add milk to cocoa mixture & stir in the vanilla. Top with mini marshmallows!
Jake says "mmmmmmm guuuuuuud" - I agree. Think of how many mugs of hot chocolate you can make armed with just a container of mediocre unsweetend cocoa? There are "about 45 tbsp" in the container. Each mug takes 2 tbsp...soooooo, you are getting over 20 large mugs of spectacular hot chocolate for what? Like $3??? Way better than buying the premixed packets.
Aldi sells bags of mini-marshmallows for around $1 (give or take) ...

I agree! Also, there are no random other ingredients in homemade cocoa! I wish everyone knew about this.
